The Mohawk Trail

This photo is only thirty percent of a very rare yard-long lithograph a good friend gave to me the other day. It is called the Hairpin Turn and it is on the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) which travels from Boston, to New York across Massachusetts. Mount Greylock the highest mountain in the state is to the very right. This hairpin turn is quite dangerous as the road to the left travels up a very steep incline for about a mile and many vehicles have lost their brakes coming down this hill.

Follow this link to the World Famous Hairpin Turn and be sure to follow the link to Pop-Up Vintage Postcards, which show many vintage postcards of the famous road. Three vehicles are identifiable above all dating from the teens , the green White tour bus, a Model T roadster and a Model T depot hack.

If you ever have the chance it is still a beautiful ride from Williamstown, east to Green-field which is on the Connecticut River.
